As per a city press release Winnipeggers might see discolored flow of water from their taps this week. The residents of River Heights and Fort Gary may experience this problem for some time. According to city officials, the problem is caused by water main work being carried out in the city. There’s road work going on at Taylor Avenue and it might take two three days to adjust the flow of water in a large main on Waverley Street. This is the reason residents might have to face problems for some hours.
The press release also stated that it would have minimal effect on the water supply, however some of the residents living adjacent to Waverley Street from Taylor Avenue to the Assiniboine River might experience a scant color change in water flow from their taps.
This is to note that a change in water flow may cause sediments from the bottom to come to the surface which otherwise settles at the bottom of pipes. City authorities have issued warnings for residents not to drink water that is muddy or discolored. The water can be used for watering plants or other similar purposes.
The press release assures that discolored water will not cause any health problems or sickness. Though the water may be smell and look bad it is not necessarily harmful the release states.
If you have been experiencing the problem for more than two or three hours daily please call 311 for assistance.
